About Cardiff and Newport SANDS
At Cardiff and Newport SANDS, we hold monthly support meetings and fund support packs and memory boxes for bereaved parents at the 4 major hospitals in our area.
Also, we have successfully funded a Bereavement Suite at UHW, at the Royal Gwent Hospital Newport, and in November 2013, had the pleasure of being able to replicate this at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital in Llantrisant.
Additionally, we helped to design and part funded a new baby memorial garden in Thornhill Cemetery, Cardiff, and continue to support maternity services in the local hospitals through providing bereavement training.
Cardiff and Newport SANDS Group is run by volunteers, - bereaved parents themselves who’s sole aim is to try and help others going through similar tragedies they have experienced themselves. We are entirely self funded, with all the support we provide we are able to do so through the donations we receive and through the fundraising activities we organise, so a big thank you to everyone who has supported us and continue to do so. Without the generosity of so many none of this would be possible.
Monthly Support Meeting
Cardiff and Newport SANDS hold monthly support meeting to help anyone affected by the loss of a baby. Anyone is welcome to attend, and you can particiapate as much or as little as you like. They are run by our trained befrienders, who have suffered a loss of a child themselves.
We also hold a next-pregnancy group.
Fundrasing and Donations
Cardiff and Newport SANDS are entirely dependant on donations and fundrasing events to enable us to do the work we do. We are forever grateful for all those who have supported us over the years to be able to increase the level of support we provide to bereaved parents in South East Wales.
Hospital Liasion
Cardiff and Newport SANDS help maternity services at 4 local hospital in South East Wales to provide care and support for those who suffer the tragic events of losing a child. We have set up bereavement suites in UHW Cardiff, and the Royal Gwent in Newport, which includes purchasing cold cots to enable parents to spend a bit longer with their babies than would otherwise be possible.

Annual Golf Event
One of Cardiff and Newport SANDS' main fundraising activities fo the year is the Seren Roberts Memorial Golf Tournament and Fundraising Dinner. To date, this event has raised over £25,000 for our group.
The latest event took place on 30th June 2017 at Llanishen Golf Club
Annual Dart Event
Our annual Darts competition, the Xander Coombes Memorial Darts Competition was set up in 2014. Running for three years so far, the event caters for players of all abilities, and is a very enjoyable and relaxed competition where all all welcomed to join.
