Seren Roberts Memorial Tournament and Fundraising Dinner 2012

June 29th 2012 saw Peterstone Lakes Golf club near Cardiff host the 2nd Annual Seren Roberts Memorial Trophy golf tournament, organised by Cardiff and Newport SANDS.

Last year’s inaugural competition was a huge success, raising over £4,000 for SANDS, so Gwyn Roberts, who organised the event in memory of his daughter Seren -  still born in November 2005  - decide to make it an annual event.

This event proved just as successful.  Over 50 golfers joined in the competition.  Luckily, the weather held clear for most of the day, which led to some terrific scores.  The prize winners on the day were as follows:-

Individual Winner – Neil Whelpton

Team Winners – MJFS Ltd

Nearest the Pin – Phillip Roberts

Longest Drive – Martin Dickson

The prize fund gathered for the day, which included a raffle and charity auction was tremendous.

Highlights included a golf bag donated by PING as the nearest the pin prize, and 4 ball voucher for the Old Course at St. Pierre for the Longest Drive winner.

Following the golf competition, we had the pleasure of being entertained by

The  highlight of the event: a golf trick shot show from Kevin Carpenter of KCGolfshow.com.  His dazzling array of trick shots with oversized clubs, whilst balancing on a unicycle or a gym ball was a truly incredible sight to behold – and also a touch mesmerising as most of his shots could easily have been in with a chance in the longest drive competitions!

Following the prize ceremony and meal, we held a charity auction. This year’s lots which were all donated included a signed Liverpool FC shirt which went under the hammer for £300, and a signed Welsh Rugby Union shirt which matched that amount.

Once again, a truly fantastic day was had by all, and over £4000 was raised from the event.

Once again, Gwyn and all at Cardiff and Newport SANDS would like to thank all for their support.
