Hospital Liasion

A Cardiff and Newport SANDS, we support Maternity units in our local Hospitals - University Hospital of Wales Cardiff, Royal Gwent Hospital Newport, Princess of Wales Bridgend, and The Royal Glamorgan Llantrisant in many ways.

We provide memory boxes to be provided to bereaved parents, which contain two teddies (one for the baby and one for the parents), a blanket, and a few other keepsakes.  We also fund bereavement packs for issue which contains a depth of information to a parents regarding dealing with issues surrounding a still birth or neonatal death, along with information on SANDS and our local group.

We have funded bereavement suites in UHW, Royal and Royal Glamorgan, which aim to give parents a little bit more privacy and in a little more comfort than a typical hospital ward.  We have also been able to provide these hospitals with Cold Cots, which allow parents to spend a little more time with their babies than they would otherwise have been able to should they wish to.

Additionally, Cardiff and Newport SANDS regularly fund bereavement training for midwives, and student midwives which aims to help them support their families whilst going through such difficult times.
